Time seemed to move in slow motion as she drew her leg back and kicked the ball as hard as she could. It sailed through the air, and straight toward the net. All too late she realized that her teammates were not shouting, “Goal, goal!” They were screaming, “No! No!”
In her excitement, she hadn’t realized she was facing the wrong side of the field! The ball was flying past her own team’s goalie and into the net! She had scored for the other team!
The coach called her off the field and Rachel could feel her teammates’ angry stares on the back of her head as she walked away. She knew they would never forgive her. Now she would never get to show them how good she was. She sat with her head down during the rest of the game. She couldn’t bear to watch.
